It was a hit

I’m way behind this week, but my parents are now all moved into their apartment and settled. It’s amazing the amount of junk a person accumulates over the course of a lifetime. My mom is talking about dividing up all of her pictures. I’m not sure why, but this bothers me.

Yesterday, since we were all together. I gave Jules his hat. I’m sorry the pictures took so long, Jules is just sneaky enough to read this blog in order to snoop. I haven’t done much knitting this week, but, my mom asked for a scarf, so I will be looking for advice on a scarf soon.

I am coming out of my funk, slowly. Thank you for the support and prayers. I appreciate it more than you know.

Because of this hat, I will be knitting angry birds hats for the rest of my natural born life. the small one asked for an angry birds costume. Who knew being a good aunt included a lifetime of knitting servitude.

The last two weeks have been uphill work. I’m sorry, I really had nothing positive to share. I’ve been struggling with the reality of the loss of my son. It’s been 4 years now, and the ache usually lies dormant for most of the year, but this year, it keeps cropping up unexpectedly. I try not to dwell on what will never be, but I’ve been doing some thinking. I think the hardest part about the death of your child is that you are missing everything. There will never be a giggly girl calling to see if she call talk to Ethan,,,etc..

I find it very hard to knit during these time periods, because knitting is so reflective. I do have a FO, though, it is the angry birds hat. I will say that the hat was an easy knit, as were the pieces for the face, some of which were crocheted for effect. I finished the hat last week along with the face pieces, but I just this morning sewed it all together, because I was afraid to screw it up. I finally told myself that I was not afraid of sewing, and to be afraid of yarn is inconceivable! Like most things, I had worked myself into a tizzy over nothing. It was so easy, I am embarassed to admit how freaked I was.

My lovely husband purchased me new dining room furniture that we reupholstered over the weekend. They were pretty, but they were white. I despise white, mostly, because I am a stain magnet. I usually spill way more things on myself than peanut would in a week, in less than an hour. At the end of our school day, I look way worse than she does. My mother expressly forbid me to purchase a white wedding gown, for just this reason. (plus, white washes me out terribly)

Anyway, I had a lovely blue asian print I purchased for a wedding that never happened, so I made a cocktail dress and a pencil skirt out of it and still had enough left to make chair covers.

It’s all my own fault

Well no, not really, It’s all the fault of that blight of my entire existence, maybe not the greatest evil in my life (I cannot insult my fashion adviser/yarn enabler too much or who knows what I will look like this year.) but certainly the longest lasting one, my little sister, for giving birth to the four cutest nephews I have ever had. The problem lies there, and with my need to be avenged on my sister for all the frogs, worms, dirt, and spiders she has thrown at me over the years, all while maintaining my world’s coolest aunt status.

Her second son is adorable and ( am not allowed to post pictures or give out any identifying info and I will respect that) has big dark brown eyes that are fringed with eyelashes I wish I could get w/o major money being involved. He is also current running favorite cousin in Livy’s book. (She runs in streaks. It depends on who does her bidding the fastest.)

He also routinely tells me  have the cutest baby he’s ever seen, and I am both beautiful and evil (long standing joke dating back to when my oldest nephew went to pre-k w/o my picture for show and tell and said “this is my Aunt Mist. She looks really nice, but she’s actually an evil super-genius!”) and that hewould love me best, EVEN IF I couldn’t get him into disney for free. Is it any wonder I am sitting here knitting my fingers to the bone, ignoring my family and my house to knit him the Angry birds hat that He just HAD to have before his birthday next week? Nope, you’d do it too. It is now officially tend to yourself Tuesday here, followed by Work it out yourself Wednesday, if necessary.

I knit for cute boys. Next up, i know that since they are all obsessed w/ Angry birds, i will be making three more of these hats. Then, the third little minion has asked for a linc costume. This may be a stretch of Auntly affection since it is miles of knitting brown and green. Plus, everytime I knit something at all, livy wants one too. I need a clone.

I have stopped work on the zigzag ghan until I hear from the designer to see if the pattern is right (I so love ravelry for that.) since I have now knit the thing correctly and it still goes all wonky in the middle. So, it’s in timeout. I’ve knit quite a bit on the therapy ghan, but I’ve also discovered another 5 skeins of the yarn for it, tempting me to make it the ghan who ate Manhattan size.

We had barely a blip of Hurricane Isaac, just enough to take out my Internet last week, so I’m sorry all, i didn’t make it to anyone’s blog, but I am slowly working on it. Now, that we have started up the new school year, my free time is a little limited, but my days are filled with happy, learning three year old covered in bubble paint and I wouldn’t trade that for quivet.

Homeschooling moms, I’m finding that livy wants to do school all day long, does this even out after a couple weeks? I don’t really want her day super regimented, any ideas are welcome!

This week’s lack of progress brought to you by Pinterest!

You see before you a broken woman, a mere shell of her former self. The zigzag ghan seems so simple! It’s 10 stitches and only a 2 row pattern. I cannot get it to work. It is driving me distracted! Speaking of distraction….(ooh look, a froggie!) how amazing is Pinterest?

I love being able to pin school lessons and recipes and more knitting stuff that I will ever be able to complete in a lifetime. This also means that I will have the longest list imaginable next year. The down side is that i spend half my day on the site. Typing out this blog is taking me 4x as long as normal, just because I am also pinning stuff at the same time. Productivity is down.

In other news, my dad is staying with us for a few weeks until he can get settled into a new apt. He got his job at Disney back. My mom is coming down sa soon as she can tie up the remaining loose ends in NY.  I now have a 63-year-old love-sick teenager living in my house. At first, it was cute, now, it is annoying. Mom, please just get here before I move dad out in the garage.

The therapy ghan is growing nicely, the rest of my things are not. We are expecting hurricane Isaac this week, I’m not sure how my internet service will be, it was pretty spotty last week as well. If I don’t get to you in the next couple of days, i will be playing catch-up soon.

Mimosa Day is here again!

Well, it’s the most wonderful day of my year, First day of school. I can just picture how it went at my sister’s today.  After  duct taping  the boy’s together to eliminate escape plans, She must have danced them out the front door and mimosa in hand escorted tem under armed guard to the bus stop. (the little blonde one is devious, evil, and brilliant, he makes an aunt proud.) Once she watched the bus round the corner, she belted out “freedom!” and hasn’t heard from since.

In other news, I frogged the zig-zag ghan twice and after this sad lesson in humility (I am not too smart to have to count rows.) I have learned yet again that I o have to pay attention to the knitting. I am still not back to the last pic I have taken, so my progress is actually – a gazillion yards.

Do you think it is smart for a woman who obviously cannot count to 20 accurately to teach a child? The jury is out on this one.

no real progress to report

We interrupt this blog to bring you life.

This week my house spoke to me. It said “dude, Remember when you were going to sort me out properly in June? Well, it’s August.” I replied “Didn’t I just…” “I’m not talking about just the stash. You always think I mean the stash.”

Sadly, many valuable knitting hours were squandered by hauling out everything I own and throwing out crud I was unaware I still had. Seriously. I had 14 half used boxes of Christmas cards. On the plus side, I found most of my teaching resources. I also located Olivia’s baby book.

Friday was my friend Jo’s b-day. I knitted her a chenille cotton washcloth and added a bar of my sister’s rocking homemade face bar, and some apple Meade.

Yesterday, i went to the beach with my family and my sister’s family. The water was so lovely. The only downside was that I somehow screwed up the zigzag ghan and I can’t figure out how. I frogged every bit of progress I made. GRR!

confession time

It’s monday and it’s time for me to get it together. So, w/o further ado or anymore attempts to procrastinate here is everything I have in the works (at the moment!)

The therapy blanket progresses nicely. Entrelac is defintely the project for me right now as i’m finding my knitting time significantly reduced. The combination of increased rain and bored three year old have taken over my life at the moment. Knitting has become too painful to do w/o pain meds, and I refuse to take them while I am alone with Livy. S we are back to 10 stitches at a time. I really hate it.

Next comes the Owlie Sack. I am finally wising up and knitting before we try to get pregnant again, since kids have this horrendous habit of outgrowing things before I finish them. I am trying not to get my hopes up too high, because chances are 50/50 that my dr is going to completely veto the idea of us trying for another child, since I am very high risk. We are going to pursue adoption if this is not viable, so those of you who pray, please remember us in your prayers. We really need wisdom and guidance!

Then comes the many things that I have cast on since beginning the book reviews. blame the yarn Harlot. I do.

First up, we have a zigzag afghan. It is the zigzag afghan designed by Frankie Brown. I love her patterns, they are simply done but look incredibly complex. I do have trouble not getting too cocky and then having to rip back 10 rows. Here is my start It’s a wedding present for a family member.

It does make excellent car knitting though. It’s probably going to be the new car project because the therapy blanket is getting too heavy to be portable and soon the owlie sack is going to start the decreases.

Up next is a pachwork quilt that has been on the backburner ever since we found out Livy was a girl. That was when I spotted the lovely heathered pink wool that became her cabled baby blanket, nicknamed the pink leviathan (which I located 3 more balls of. I am contemplating putting it back on the needles and adding to it. It was a great deal of work, and that kid WILL pass it on to the next 25 generations, and so It should be a little longer, I think.

then comes a hat for a friend. the picture is not good. Neither is the progress. I cast it on. The yarn is a plummy purple.

followed by the third reknit of my falling leaves tunic. I’m kind of leaving this on the back burner though, just to make sure I lose no more weight. I want to be able to wear it when i’m finished. I will cry if this ends up as a gift for someone else. I don’t like any grwnup I know that well. The yarn is really lovely, autumnal colors, but the picture really doesn’t reflect that.

Then there is the shawl that I now hate! I really love the pattern,. but the sock yarn is not nice to work with. The colors are lovely together. I like how ot looks, but I really hate it. It’s in timeout right now, as it was too expensive to pitch, and it is supposed to be a christmas present, but it has bad vibes and would probably cause a forest fire or something. Ideas welcome.

Here is the fijiu lace wrap from last year’s challenge. I really like this, and want to finish it. So, back into the pile it goes.

Finally there is my “Last flipping attempt at these accursed socks and I really mean it this time!!!” project that I am trying to delude my brain into thinking they are not socks, but a hat fr a small pixie. WE shall see how it goes. They are worsted weight skiing socks that I am going to give away to family in NY, since I KNOW there is alot of bad karma here, and I’m not willing to have them in the house. The only trouble is that there is no one in my family who truly deserves this. If you have someone in mind email me your address and I’ll send them to you.

Finally, I have the aforementioned hat. A finished thing, in the sea of startitis and procrastination
